About the university
Founded in 1958, WTU is a provincial university specialising in textiles, apparel, materials and art and design. Textile science and engineering is a national leader, and it hosts Hubei’s first undergraduate-level Sino-foreign cooperative institution (the Birmingham Institute of Fashion and Creative Arts). It ranked 89th in the 2025 internationalisation competitiveness ranking of Chinese public universities.
Since 2006 the university has run Ministry of Commerce aid training programs, training more than 3,200 officials and technicians from over 90 countries and regions. The International Education College manages international students across Chinese language training, bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programs, and students may apply for the Chinese Government Scholarship and the Hubei Provincial Scholarship for international students.
